Statesboro residents experienced snow on the ground for the first time since 2018. Snow started falling around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and continued throughout the night. Students were welcomed with a winter wonderland on Wednesday morning with snow still on the ground.
Residents were bundled up and ready to go as the snow picked up.
“I had a snowball fight when it first started sticking which was pretty fun,” said Georgia Southern student Cameron Scharf. “We were out there until about 2 in the morning because we didn’t have class so we were just out there throwing snow at each other.”
Residents were advised to not drive if they did not have to go anywhere for their own safety. County offices, courts, and schools were closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. As the week went on, normal operations resumed at 10 a.m. on Friday.
