On Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m., the Student Government Association will host the #packtheballroom Mayoral Candidate Forum in the Russell Union Ballroom.

The annual event will feature Statesboro’s mayoral candidates John Grotheer, Jonathan McCollar and incumbent Mayor Jan Moore. They will be presenting their political platforms, views and take questions from students.

Valencia Warren, executive vice-president of the SGA, wants students to attend the forum in order to become more politically aware and engaged in the student body.

“The Student Government Association seeks to ensure that we have a civically engaged student body on all levels of the political spectrum,” Warren said. “The best way to do this is through deliberate attempts to educate students on what civic engagement entails.”

Warren also says the forum is an opportunity for students to let their voices be heard.

“This event is a great start to accomplish this vision for our students,” she said. “We encourage all of our students to play an active role within our Statesboro community by being informed about the candidates that we are voting to put in office to represent us.”

Doors for the event will open at 6 p.m. and it is free to the public.
