Georgia Southern University held their tradition of the Lantern Walk on Sweetheart Circle on Friday, May1 as a celebration for the seniors.
The Lantern Walk ceremony began in 1935 that lasted until the 1960s. That is until the University Programming Board brought back the tradition in 2009.
Mr. Georgia Southern University Tyvon Sands, and Miss Georgia Southern Sarah Bowen opened the event with a speech honoring the seniors.
Students were given light buckets to guide their way around Sweetheart Circle to reminisce on their time at the university.
The University Programming Board provided decorations for students to customize their cap for graduation.
“When people come to see and get their lanterns walking around with their families and saying ‘Oh I have a memory at sweetheart circle and they’re taking their pictures, it’s just very nice to see everyone coming together before they graduate,” said Vice President of Spirit and Traditions, Nadiyah McGill.
Every year the university holds the lantern walk right before graduation.
