Spikeball, cornhole, tug-of-war and an inflatable obstacle course fueled healthy competition during “Southern Spirit Field Day” on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The University Programming Board promoted camaraderie, community and wellness by giving students the chance to get active and enjoy free snow cones.
“This event was created as a chance for students to take a break, let off some steam, and just have fun together outside of the classroom,” Lockett said.
Students showcased their hand-eye coordination and aiming skills while playing corn hole, and they balanced stability and speed as they bounced to victory during sack racing.
The inflatable obstacle course was also popular. Students were challenged to weave through various obstacles, climb to the top of the inflatable, then one final challenge of being the first to slide to the bottom of the obstacle.
“I just like being active,” Benard Haszleton said after racing Hannah Scroggins through the bounce house.
“While this is a newer event, our goal is to grow it into an annual program that students can look forward to every year,” said Lockett.
Upcoming UPB events and on campus include “Roll-a-world,” “Celebrate Spirit Week” and a rodeo inspired by Beyonce. Intramurals are also a great option for students who want to stay active.
