Georgia gas prices currently sit around $3.20 per gallon on average, the highest point in over a year.
The increase comes as an ongoing attack on Iran by the U.S. and Israel has escalated the situation in the Middle East, destabilizing oil markets.
According to reporting by NBC, crude oil currently costs over $90 per barrel, approaching a high not seen since Russia first invaded Ukraine in 2022.
This is largely a result of shipping being halted through Iran’s Strait of Hormuz, which almost 20% of the world’s oil normally passes through.
Analysts say other factors like warmer temperatures and spring break travel may also be affecting these prices, with refiners switching to a more expensive summer blend.
The Trump administration has described these price increases as a short term disruption, though they could continue to rise as the conflict rages on.
