As you put the finishing touches on your packing list, it can be easy to forget the simple things. To help you prepare to make the move into your dorm at Georgia Southern, we compiled a list of the must-haves that can be easy to forget.
Of course you’ll need the essentials:
- Comforter
- Sheets (grab a few sets!)
- Mattress topper
- Curtains/curtain rods
- Command hooks (you can never have enough)
- Cleaning supplies (window spray, disinfectant spray, Clorox wipes, etc.)
- Toilet paper (PLENTY)
- Trash cans/trash bags
- Towels (don’t forget bathroom and kitchen towels!)
- Snacks (always have your favorites in stock)
- Medicine (to save you from the frantic trip to Walmart or Publix, stock up on medicines now!)
These must-have recommendations are sure to come in handy throughout the year:
- Laundry basket with wheels or straps. Trust me, you don’t want to be stuck lugging your heavy loads of laundry across the dorms.
- Tide To Go sticks. Be prepared; stains happen all the time.
- Woozoo Fan. Dorm rooms can get HOT; even apartments! My Woozoo has saved me these past 3 years.
- Desk/drawer organizers. Storage is crucial when living in a dorm; use all space in the most organized way possible.
- Power strip. It will make plugging in multiple devices so much easier.
- Brita pitcher. Having purified water accessible is a necessity.
- Desk lamp. Don’t kill your eyes with the harsh dorm lighting. Lamps with extra storage and USBs are a huge plus.
- Umbrella/rain jacket. Weather at GS is unpredictable; you don’t want to be stuck without rain protection.
Pro tip: Avoid any grocery stores on move-in weekend. Trust us, your list will be out of stock. The alternative option is to make the drive to Pooler, but that gets hectic as well. Try to get all of your essentials and supplies prior to your arrival. Operation Move-In is extremely overwhelming, so lean on your family, friends and GS staff volunteers to assist you and make the process a little easier.
