Average gasoline prices across Georgia have risen 11.8 cents per gallon in the past week due to Hurricane Harvey temporarily closing down oil refineries in Texas.

This price rise has put the average cost of gasoline in Bulloch County at $2.28 per gallon, according to the Gasbuddy website.

The average national rise of gas costs in the last week at the pump is 5.6 cents, putting the average cost of a gallon of gasoline at $2.39, Gasbuddy reports.

This slight increase, however, is expected to get worse before it gets better according to Senior Petroleum Analyst for Gasbuddy, Patrick DeHaan.

“Prices will likely rise nearly country wide heading into labor day,” DeHann said in a press release. “Nearly everyone will feel a bit of a pinch at the pump from Harvey.”

While Hurricane Harvey has weakened into Tropical Storm Harvey, it is still having a huge impact on Texas and much of the Gulf Coast by adding rain to already flooded areas.

Parts of southeast Houston have already picked up more than 40 inches of rain, nearing an all-time US tropical cyclone rain record, according to the Weather Channel.
