It’s that special time of year again, when the love is in the air and your wallets get swept right off their feet. Like it or not Valentine’s Day is arguably the worst time of year to be remiss in your gift giving, but there’s no reason you can’t put a smile on that special someone’s face without pawning the title to your car. Here are some fresh ideas and websites for gifts that the person in your life will cherish this year.

Created by actor Blake Anderson, of Workoholics fame, the clothing line is sure to have something far out and unique that you just won’t find anywhere else. If your girlfriend or boyfriend is the type of person who’d rather watch Adult Swim than CNN this is the place for you. The prices aren’t unreasonable either with trinkets and clothes ranging from $8-$55 there is something that is bound to catch your eye.

These sites are huge right now. Whether the apple of your eye is in a sorority or in the school band there is something for every demographic on this site. When in doubt, most girls like pins. You can find a variety of pins from their favorite TV show or book for them to stick on their makeup bag or purse. The prices vary wildly because they sell more expensive items like nice jewelry and clothing, but they also sell cute little doodads that aren’t going to set you back very much. Mallory Charlton, a junior accounting major at Georgia Southern, swears by the sites.

“Look I love assorted chocolates and would never be upset with getting some of those, but I find myself looking at stuff at Pinterest or Etsy like every night,” Charlton said. “It has everything and it’s mostly pretty hip stuff. Of course it depends, but they both have cute jewelry stuff that is not very expensive that any girl would like.”

Wish

If you’ve hardly got two nickels to rub together, wish.com may be the site for you. The site is a collection of wholesale items from different vendors so your experience with the site may vary depending on who you buy from. They’ve got a wide selection of everything from dirt cheap costume-style jewelry and dresses to watches and men’s clothes. The only downside is that it normally takes a while to get the products shipped, but a surprise gift for any occasion never hurt anybody. Kelly Tarkington, a recent Georgia Southern graduate, said Wish is great for picking out a wide selection of $1-$10 items that will show up on a rainy day. It may not be consistent, but the cheap prices make this site a college student’s dream gift catalogue.

Out of Time? Stick with The Classics

You can’t go wrong with cooking for the person in your life. Cooking a meal for someone is very personal; it’s a tried and true way to someone’s heart. You’re actively working and doing something in front of them showing how much you care and desire to make them happy. At the end of the day people in a relationship want to know that the person they’re with cares and pays attention.

On the same thread, making them something by hand can really set the mood. Listen up guys: if you write your girl a handwritten letter for Valentine’s Day, she is going to kiss your neck. It’s as simple as that. You can buy them diamonds all day and they will be enthralled that you did, but being personable can go a long way.

Brittnee Smith, a senior therapeutic recreation major at Georgia Southern, is a fan of the OG staples of Valentine’s date nights.

“I’m a sucker for flowers and a guy who cooks for me. If it’s something more serious, then clothes and jewelry may be the way to go, but if you guys are still in the first year or so in your relationship you can’t go wrong with the basics,” Smith said.

If you can’t afford a gift this year, don’t lose any hair over it. Just put on a smile, show them a good time, and in the immortal words of Crosby, Stills & Nash: “If you can’t be with the one you love, honey love the one you’re with.”
