Sustainability speaker, Seth Orme, is coming to Georgia Southern University next Wednesday as part of First Year Experience’s Global Engagement series.

A GS alumnus, Orme will speak about environmental sustainability and his organization, Packing It Out.

The lecture will be held on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Nessmith-Lane Assembly Hall.

Packing It Out is an organization co-founded by Orme that encourages hikers to clean up walking trails.

The original idea was to encourage hikers to clean up after themselves when they went hiking but later expanded into an advocacy group that encourages people to clean up walking trails.

Packing It Out has also held thru-hikes where volunteers hike the entirety of a trail and pick up trash along the way.

In 2015, Packing It Out held a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. The entire hike was 2,000 miles and resulted in the collection of over 1,000 pounds of trash.
