Georgia Southern falls from late TD by Arkansas State
October 12, 2016
Georgia Southern traveled to Jonesboro for their Sun Belt matchup against Arkansas State Wednesday night. This game aired live on ESPN 2 and it was a thriller. Arkansas State came away with a touchdown in the back of the end zone with nine seconds left to seal the deal. GS is 3-2 (2-1) and has now dropped two games back-to-back.
GS Quarterback Kevin Ellison started the game against ASU due to the injury suffered by Favian Upshaw in the game against Western Michigan. Ellison completed 14 of 22 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown. Ellison’s solo touchdown came from a pass to Wide Receiver Myles Campbell. Campbell caught the ball in the flat and ran up the field for a 63-yard touchdown.
The Eagles received little help from the running game against the Red Wolves. The Eagles accumulated only 162 yards on the ground. This is well below their season average of 287 yards per game. L. A. Ramsby ran for 68 yards, with 61 of those yards coming from a touchdown in the first quarter. Matt Breida has not scored a touchdown since the opening game of the season and he has yet to rush for over 100 yards in a game. He had seven such games in the 2015 season.
ASU turned the ball over five times, but they Eagles were unable to capitalize. GS scored three points off of the five turnovers. The defense came away with fumble recoveries and intercepted the Red Wolves twice.
Next, the Eagles travel to Bobby Dodd stadium to take face Georgia Tech on October 15. The game will kick off at 12:30 p.m.
