Georgia Southern fell to 3-1 after coming up short in Kalamazoo, allowing 35 points in the first half. GS turned the ball over four times and could not find a way to get their defense off of the field. Western Michigan Cornerback Darius Phillips stole the show with an interception returned for a touchdown and a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Eagles played an uncharacteristic game. They never established their dominance on the ground in the first half and that put them in a bind. The Eagles managed to finish the game with only 202 rushing yards. The Broncos managed to slow down Running Back Matt Breida holding him to merely three yards per carry. Maxwell Award hopeful Breida has yet to run for over 100 yards in a game this season. Wesley Fields finished the game 35 yards on the ground and a 44-yard touchdown reception.

Quarterbacks Favian Upshaw and Kevin Ellison both had solid games against WMU. Upshaw finished the game with 103 yards passing and two touchdowns, while Ellison managed to get 46 yards on the ground and throwing a 44-yard touchdown strike to Montay Crockett. Offensively the Eagles did all that they could to get back into the game, but it wasn’t enough.

WMU Quarterback Zach Terrell exacted his revenge against the Eagles defense. Terrell threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns, this time, around against the Eagles. GS could not make enough plays defensively to stop the Broncos offense. WMU managed to continuously drive the ball down the field effectively and the Eagles had no answer. GS Linebacker Ironhead Gallon finished the game with 13 total tackles.

Georgia Southern has the opportunity to bounce back next week in conference play at Arkansas State. This game is scheduled for a Wednesday and will be broadcasted live on ESPN 2.
