Fugitive on the run
September 3, 2016
The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office was called earlier Wednesday to assist Georgia State Patrol troopers in a search for a fugitive on the run.
According to the Statesboro Herald the unidentified suspect fled the state trooper after he was clocked speeding on I-16. The suspect did not stop for the trooper in pursuit and the GSP in pursuit resorted to the precision immobilization technique, or PIT maneuver. The PIT maneuver is a tactic used to stop a fugitive’s car when in pursuit by bumping the back end of the car and spinning it out to a stop.
As a result of the PIT maneuver, the fugitive crashed and overturned his vehicle near the intersection of Adabell Rd. and Old Bowen Store Rd. After crashing his vehicle, the man immediately left his vehicle and pursued cover in a nearby cornfield. The BCSO and GSP troopers arrived for backup and assisted a GSP helicopter in a multiple hour-long search of the cornfield that would be deemed unsuccessful.
According to the Statesboro Herald, GSP Post 45 Commander Sg. Brad Mosher said that after the search a nearby resident contacted the local law enforcement and delivered an exact description of the suspect, saying that he saw the man walking out of the field. The helicopter search has resumed and local residents have been asked to stay alert and report any suspicious activity or persons.
