The Center for Sustainability will host its 4th annual GreenFest this Saturday morning on the Bulloch County Courthouse Lawn to celebrate sustainability.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include workshops, live music, educational activities, sustainable art and vendors with sustainable products.

Students will be able to participate in activities and workshops to bring home their own sustainable solutions at booths from Georgia Forestry, the Georgia Southern University Botanic Gardens, the GS Museum and the Wildlife Center.

There will be a shuttle leaving from the Russell Union from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning to take students downtown.

To encourage sustainable transportation, the Center for Sustainability will enter bicyclists into a drawing for sustainable prizes this year.

“We only have one Earth. The resources on this Earth are limited, and this sustainability festival is to show students how to care,” Dr. Lissa Leege, director for the Center of Sustainability, said. “Students are inheriting the world that we have messed up, so it is our goal to provide solutions for everyone so we can make it a better place to live in the future.”

With live music by Plaid Dot Music’s School of Rock, the annual GreenFest has a festival atmosphere and provides students with an introduction to downtown Statesboro.

“I think it’s good that we are trying to raise awareness for something that needs to be brought up. It makes me think about the future and what we are leaving behind for future generations,” Graham, freshman music education major, said.

GS President Hebert and the Boro Blue Mile committee will speak on the importance of sustainability in our community.

“GreenFest is just one more reason why Statesboro is one of America’s best communities,” Dr. Leege said.
