Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
March 22, 2016
As an international equality march to stop rape, sexual assault and other issues in gender violence, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes has found its way into the tens of thousands of organizations and outlets with shared visions of spreading awareness.
A portion of those outlets include colleges and universities from across the world.
“Academia is the most appropriate outlet to spread awareness for this subject,” Caroline Hook, freshman art major and gender studies minor, said.
“School is easily the best place for people of various fields to come together and educate one another on important issues,” Hook said.
Georgia Southern University holds its 4th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Rotunda.
The event invites both the men and women of GSU to come out and join the fight against sexual assault. Starting at the Rotunda. participants will be wearing heels to stress the importance of knowing what it’s like to see the world through the eyes of a victim.
Proceeds are donated to the Statesboro Regional Sexual Assault Center (SRSAC) where assistance is offered to victims free of charge.
With over 300 participants, GSU raised over $3,000 last year.
