1. An earthquake with a 8.3 magnitude struck Chilie last night close to the nation’s coast.

According to CNN, the earthquake had a depth of 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) and caused waves up almost 16 feet tall to hit the Chilean coast. A million people were evacuated from the coast. Tsunami advisories were also issued for areas as far away as Hawaii and California.

2. Second Republican Debate Turns Focus Away From Politics

The Republican party had its second debate of the Presidential campaign season Wednesday night. As reported by CBS news, at the start of the debate many of the politicians did not introduce themselves by referring to their current position. Much of the non-political debate occurred between GOP frontrunner Donald Trump and several of the other 10 candidates that were on the stage for the debate. Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina argued back and forth about business records, while Bush even asked Trump to apologize to his wife for comments he made about Bush’s wife Columbia.

3. Military Coup in Burkina Fasa

Fox News is reporting that there was a military coup in the West African nation of Burkina Fasa on Wednesday.

The coup was led by elite members of the presidential guard that had disagreed publicly with a transitional government that had been in place. The interim President and Prime Minister of Burkina Faso were arrested and barricades were risen around the Presidency.
