Georgia Southern baseball remains winless in mid-week contests as The Citadel took the victory 4-3 on Tuesday.

Sophomore RHP Avery Fagan (0-2) accepted the loss on the mound for the Eagles (12-10, 4-2 SBC) after throwing 13 pitches and letting up one run on three hits.

Senior RF Aaron Mizell went 1-3 on the night with three RBIs. His one hit was a homerun to center field in the first inning, scoring the Eagles’ only runs of the game.

Freshman CF Logan Baldwin went 3-4 on the night with one double while senior C Chase Griffin added a double of his own.

The Eagles took off in the first inning with Mizell hitting his fourth homerun of the season, giving Georgia Southern a 3-0 cushion.

However, The Citadel (11-7) came right back in the bottom of the inning with two runs, cutting the lead to one run.

The Citadel tied the game in the fifth inning, and followed that up with a homerun in the next inning, giving the Bulldogs the 4-3 advantage.

The Eagles did not go down easily though. In the ninth inning, Griffin hit a ground-rule double over the left field fence, putting him in scoring position. Redshirt junior LF Hunter Thomas grounded out to advance Griffin to third, giving the Eagles the opportunity to tie the game.

Nevertheless, the following two batters struck out giving the Eagles their seventh mid-week loss.

The Eagles will be back in Statesboro this weekend to host Arkansas State in a weekend Sun Belt series. Friday’s first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
