The Georgia Southern University men’s golf team finished fifth in the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainsville, Fla. on Sunday in the Eagles’ best finish at the Invitational since 2006-2007.

Charlie Martin finished at 2-under-par 68, and the team finished with their second-lowest team total of the day with an even-par 280. The team arrived at the competition ranked fiftieth in Golfstat team rankings, but managed to finish higher up on the scoreboard than No. 6 Vanderbilt, No. 28 North Florida and No. 34 University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Martin’s lowest round of the season rocketed him 17 spots up the individual leader-board to tie for fifteenth place. Scott Wolfes and Kim Koivu each carded even-par 70 to tie for twenty-third place in the competition. Archer Price shot a 72 and Matt Mierzejewski at 75.

Freshman Jake Storey, who was playing in his first collegiate tournament as an individual, shot a 72 and finished twenty-seventh for the day.

The Eagles have over a week off before they travel to Hilton Head for the Wexford Intercollegiate at Wexford Plantation Feb. 23-24.
