According to CNN, the state Health Department of Georgia reported Monday its first confirmed case of measles since 2012. The infected infant is being treated in Atlanta.

The Measles outbreak sparking in California has started to spread steadily after around 40 people came in contact with the virus while visiting the Disneyland theme park according to BuzzFeed News.

Since the outbreak was noticed in December, various cases have begun cropping up around the U.S. The air born virus can linger for up to two hours and travel long distances on air currents, making it highly contagious.

Patients usually develop a rash two weeks after exposure to the virus, but are contagious four days before the inflammation becomes visible.

The last study conducted from Jan. 1 to Feb. 6 reported 121 cases of measles in 17 states and Washington, D.C., based on reports form the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
