Don’t let negativity control your life

Erinn Williams

This school year is almost over, finals are right around the corner and all that work that we should have done earlier in the semester is piling in on us.

There isn’t much you can do to relieve stress at this point over school work, but you can relieve stress in your daily life.

A lot of stress can come from relationships, friends and our everyday interactions with other, but you can lessen.

Tony Gaskins, a motivational speaker, is credited with saying “you teach people how to treat you by what you allow, what you stop, and what you reinforce.”

If you don’t want someone to treat you like crap then don’t allow them to treat you like crap.

Lets be honest, many of us already know that this is true, but we continue to allow negative energy and negative people to effect our outlooks on ourselves and life.

So this is a wake-up call for all of us to be more mindful of who and what we let into our lives this upcoming school year.

Your roommate is too loud and dirty? Report her. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Nobody is helping you with that group project? Don’t give them credit. Do not let people take your kindness for weakness.

When people do something that bothers you let them know. Don’t hold it in. How can someone know how you feel about if you never tell them?

That is one of the best ways to stress yourself out and I have learned it the hard way over and over again.

People can only push you as far as you will let them and if you don’t set boundaries they can and will walk all over you.

It is a beautiful thing to have a generous heart and to put others before yourself. As someone with that personality type, I know the struggle is real to actually think about yourself every once and awhile, but you have to.

So allow good people and good things to come into your life, stop letting negativity flow and reinforce the values that you have set for your life.
