Twenty-four eagles named Academic All-Conference

The Southern Conference recognized 302 Student-Athletes and 24 Georgia Southern University Eagles on Friday for the Academic All-Southern Conference Team for the fall 2012 semester.

To be eligible for the prestigious award, athletes must participate in at least half of their teams’ competitions while carrying a minimum of a 3.3 cumulative GPA entering the semester. The athletes must also have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.

Headlining the Eagles’ soaring GPAs are senior midfielder Emily Archer from the women’s soccer team, senior outside hitter Moriah Bellissimo from the volleyball team, sophomore middle blocker Kym Coley from the volleyball team, sophomore midfielder Thomas Hamilton from the men’s soccer team and sophomore midfielder David Vargas Masis from the men’s soccer team, who all maintained perfect 4.0 GPAs this season.

Men’s Soccer led GSU’s fall sports with seven All-SoCon athletes, followed by Women’s Soccer and Volleyball, with six each.

The 24 GSU student-athletes have an impressive average cumulative GPA of a 3.68.
