Ah lipstick, it can either make or break your whole outfit. If you don’t know the several different kinds, you may be at a loss when thrown into the world of beauty trends and high- end makeup.
However, you don’t have to spend a fortune to achieve the perfect pout.
The staff here at the Reflector decided to try out three completely different lipsticks and glosses to see which ones made the cut and which ones to kick to the curb.
MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour
If you struggle with always having to reapply your lipstick, try MAC’s new matte liquid lipcolour. It stays on all night and will not fade, even if you decide to have a smooch session.
Our online editor prefers this over any other lip color line. “MAC has always been my favorite makeup brand, so I have this stuff in so many colors! It is definitely my number one for going out because I barely have to reapply and it stays bold,” said Yasmeen Waliaga, Junior Journalism major.
However, if you have naturally dry lips you may want to steer clear of matte lipsticks.
If you still want to try a matte lipstick then we suggest that you keep a tube of chapstick on you to put over and under the lipcolor.

Lipstick Queen, Hello Sailor Lipstick
When you first glance at this unusual blue lipstick, you may think we are crazy, but it actually goes on clear and changes to the perfect shade of plum for your lips.
It is super hydrating so if you have dry lips, this is the perfect lipstick for you.
The one downside is it seems to work best on lighter skin tones.
“When it comes to lighter colors, as in clears and glosses, they usually don’t show up on me simply because I’m of a darker skin tone,” said Junior Journalism major, Alexandria Richbourg.
Price: $25
Color: Hello Sailor

Shows up best on: Lighter skin tones
L’Oreal Infallible® 8 HR Le Gloss
If you are a big fan of lightweight lip products that still give you great color, you should really think about using tinted gloss.
This lip gloss goes on smooth and gives your lips a good color without looking overdone.
If you were planning on wearing this for a date, this is your warning that it does come off pretty easily, so make sure that kiss at the end of the night is worth it.
“When it comes to lipsticks of lighter shades, I can usually blend a darker lip liner or blend colors together to make it look nice,” Richbourg said, “I love a good ombré lip!”
Price: $9.99
Color: Posy
Best used for: Everyday use
Kiss approved: No
Shows best on: All skin tones
Wet n’ Wild MegaLast Lip Color
If you like the matte look but do not like the sticky feeling of a gloss, then a simple lipstick would be the best bet for you.
Not only is this lipstick super cheap, but it’s super awesome! Seriously though, this lipstick is the bomb. It goes on smooth and you will not have to keep reapplying it all night.
The only downfall is that it does come off easily and can be messy. So if you are going to wear this on a date, we suggest choosing a lighter shade because the last thing you want is your date’s face to be covered in dark red smudges.
