What Valentine’s Day is known for is the sweet nothings people say and the gifts one receives. Most of the gifts you will receive will also come with cards, and it always means more when the card is handmade.
To make a handmade card there are certain things you will need if you want it to look professionally made (or at least something someone would wanna keep on their wall).
First off, you will need to understand your design so that you can buy the proper materials. For a simple card you will need:

  • Cardstock
  • Envelopes
  • Scissors
  • Markers (Colored and black to outline)
  • Foam tape
  • Glue
  • Scrapbooking paper
  • Ruler
  • A general idea of the direction you want to go in.

To start you will need to figure out what you want to do and the relationship that you’re going to be focusing on. If it’s a relationship with your boss, your sorority sister, your best friend or your significant other, there are appropriate things to say for each relationship, so try to figure out what you’re going to say before you start. Here are examples for each relationship. Feel free to watch the video and then refer below for help if you don’t understand what’s happening in the video.

Sorority sister card:  “I love you a Latte”

  • Draw and color your latte on a sheet of cardstock
  • Outline it
  • Cut it out
  • Figure out where you will place it on your card and mark center
  • Write out “I love you a Latte”
  • Cut foam strips and place late on card.

Card to your Boss:  “Boss Lady”

  • Cut out paper to fit dimensions of card
  • Outline words with pencil letters
  • Color words
  • Glue scrapbooking paper to card.
  • Write on the inside

Best Friend Card:  “That’s a Horrible Idea”

  • Draw and color phone on cardstock
  • Outline phone
  • Cut out phone
  • Choose where to place, and mark (use ruler)
  • Write out words
  • Cut foam tape to fit phone
  • Place phone,
  • Draw wire
  • Write inside note “what time?”

Significant Other Card: “I could only love you more if you bought me more doughnuts”

  • Cut paper out to fit card
  • Use ruler to draw out compound and words with a pencil
  • Go over with a black marker
  • Attach paper to card with glue
  • Write on the inside

Use these ideas, or figure something else out for yourself, but if you ever need help, the video will always be here. Hopefully, your significant other or whomever will love your card. Be proud! You did it!
