Coaching changes across the Sun Belt

Following the regular season, throughout bowl season and seemingly up until signing day, many college football programs undergo a series of coaching changes. From the top teams in college football to the bottom and from head coaches to the administrative assistants, change is inevitable.

While there was no changing of the guard in the Georgia Southern staff, teams across the Sun Belt underwent changes from the top down.

Here are all of the changes to staffs across the conference from the end of the 2018 season to now:

Appalachian State

Dec. 3: Head coach Scott Satterfield accepts head coaching job at Louisville

Dec. 5: Co-offensive coordinator Frank Ponce and defensive coordinator Bryan Brown to join Satterfield’s staff at Louisville

Dec. 13: North Carolina State offensive coordinator Eli Drinkwitz to be named head coach at ASU

Dec. 19: Appalachian State co-defensive coordinator Dale Jones also joining Louisville staff

Dec. 20: Co-offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Shawn Clark and outside linebackers coach D.J. Smith have been retained at ASU

Dec. 26: Louisiana Tech special teams coordinator Erik Link has joined the ASU staff in the same role

Dec. 27: NC State co-defensive coordinator / safeties coach Ted Roof joins the ASU staff as defensive coordinator

Jan. 3: Former Western Kentucky offensive coordinator Junior Adams joins the ASU staff as wide receivers coach

Jan. 11: Former Kansas senior analyst Buddy Wyatt joins the staff as defensive line coach

Arkansas State

Jan. 9: Head Coach Blake Anderson has added former North Carolina quarterbacks coach Keith Heckendorf as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Anderson also added Missouri State co-offensive coordinator Sean Coughlin as offensive line coach and run game coordinator and Houston analyst Malcolm Kelly as outside receivers coach

Jan. 15: Running backs coach Norval McKenzie has joined the Louisville staff in the same position and cornerbacks coach Trooper Taylor to join Duke’s staff to work with wide receivers, per The Athletic

Jan. 16: Former UMass co-defensive coordinator David Duggan named defensive coordinator. Quality control assistant Brandon Joiner promoted to defensive ends coach

Coastal Carolina

Jan. 18: Head coach Joe Moglia steps down and offensive coordinator Jamey Chadwell will take over as head coach

Georgia State

Jan. 10: Shiel Wood, former Georgia Tech safeties coach, will join as a linebackers coach

Texas State

November 18: Head Coach Everett Withers fired

Nov. 28: West Virginia offensive coordinator Jake Spavital named head coach

Nov. 29: Wide receivers coach Ron Antoine is the only Bobcats coach retained

Dec. 3: Former Texas Tech co-defensive coordinator Zac Spavital, Jake’s brother joins the TSU staff as defensive coordinator

Dec. 5: Oklahoma State analyst Bob Stitt named offensive coordinator

Jan. 13: Tevin Mims, formerly a graduate assistant at Texas Tech, joins staff as outside linebackers coach

Jan. 16:  Former Texas Tech safeties coach Brett Dewhurst named defensive backs coach 

Troy

Jan. 4: Head coach Neal Brown named head coach at West Virginia

Jan. 9: Troy defensive coordinator Vic Koenning follows Brown to WVU

Jan. 10: Kansas offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey to be the next head coach at Troy

Jan. 14: BYU offensive line coach Ryan Pugh named offensive coordinator, and outside linebackers coach/special teams coordinator Brandon Hall promoted to defensive coordinator

Jan. 16: Brian Blackmon has been moved from tight ends coach to special teams coordinator.
