It’s no secret that thrifting has become a huge trend in the past few years. It’s almost like a treasure hunt, trying to find the diamond in the rough. Whether it be an amazing vintage leather jacket or a goofy dad tee, thrifting is always a fun way to get some great clothes at a low price. These tips could help you make your next trip to the thrift store a little more successful.
Visit frequently
Thrift stores often restock their floors at least every other day and they also don’t carry any items consistently. It’s important to keep in mind that what is there might not be there the next time you go. You can even find out the times and days your local thrift store restocks their floor so you can have first dibs of all the new items.
Take your time
Finding some good pieces can take a while. Make sure your’e going through every section you want to throughly. Some of the best items could be hiding in the wrong sized section or stuck between two shirts. Also, don’t feel like you have to be in and out in a certain time frame, take all the time you want browsing the isles.
Wear the right clothes
Some smaller thrift stores don’t have dressing rooms, so wear clothes that you can easily either slip clothes on over, or are able to hold items up to your body to see if they fit.
Check what your buying for damages
It’s common for items in thrift stores to have some minor wear and tear but it’s always a good idea to check if something has some major damages that aren’t worth buying it.
Consider your neighborhood
Thrift store inventory comes from the surrounding neighborhood, so shop in places where you admire the style.If you’re on the hunt for more urban and trendy pieces, you might find more success in larger cities than in rural areas.
Take advantage of special offers
Some thrift stores offer special deals, like half off, on certain days of the week according to what color tags the clothes have. This is a great time to get an even better deal, but make sure you get there earlier on those days because they are bound to be busier.
Make an inspiration board
It’s a lot easier to visualize outfits and home decor when you have an inspiration board to get ideas from. Make a board on Pinterest board of different “vibes” you want. Trying to visualize an entire outfit or home decor if you only have one thing in your hand so making something you like it really helpful.
Hit more than one store
Make an afternoon of it! Don’t limit yourself to visiting only one store because you might not find anything you want there. Be willing to spend some time driving around town to make sure you visit every place possible.
