The Georgia Southern Men’s soccer team will be looking to seal a spot in the Sun Belt Championship, but first they have to beat opponent Appalachian State in a semifinal match.

GS faced ASU in the Sun Belt tournament playoffs last year as well and took them to double overtime where the Eagles advanced 5-4 in penalty kicks.

The last time the Mountaineers and the Eagles matched up in regular season play it was a hard-fought game where the Eagles pulled out a win thanks to a last-minute goal by Sophomore Gonzalo Talavera.

The Eagles outshot ASU 10-5 and both teams played aggressively as shown by the seven yellow cards handed out.

The Eagles are currently 6-6-3 with a conference record of 2-1-1 and coming off a 1-4 loss to Coastal Carolina.

As expected, Javier Carbonell will be an Eagle to be on the look for during the game as he was just named to All-Sun Belt first team, Sun Belt Co-player of the year, and Sun Belt Co-Offensive Player of the year.

The Mountaineers sit at 8-5-3 with a conference record of 2-1-1. ASU finished out the season with a 3-0 win over Howard and tallying 198 shots, averaging 12.4 shots per game.

For the Eagles this game will present itself as a challenge, but this team has grown talent and skill wise over the course of the season and as long as they are on, working together, and putting in their best efforts there should be no problem to pull out a win.

The game is set to start in Savannah at Floyd E. Morris Field Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed on Sun Belt TV.
