Prior to the Sun Belt tournament, the conference has released post-season honors for men’s soccer.

Senior forward Javier Carbonell was named to All-Sunbelt first team as well as being named Sun Belt Co-player of the year, and Sun Belt Co-Offensive Player of the year. After an impressive season with 13 goals scored, 58 shots, and 1184 minutes played it’s no surprise to see Carbonell receive these awards.

The forward has also been named Sun Belt offensive Player of the Week three times this season and five times overall.

Carbonell has been a huge asset to the Eagles, stepping in to be one of the three captains, making game -changing plays and being able to shine while leading the Eagles in shots and goals. One of the more memorable games where Carbonell showed he was a dangerous player was in a match against Jacksonville University where the senior scored four goals four different ways.

Along with Carbonell, freshman Samuel Mayer and sophomore Gonzalo Talavara were named to All-Sun Belt Second team.

Talavara was also named a captain for the season as this defender has played 1246 minutes, has had two goals, and seven shots. Talavara is the player to thank when it comes to the win over Appalachian State as he scored the game-winning goal in the last seconds of the game.

Mayer has played a key role in the midfield this season, showing talent with his foot skills and his possession and redistribution game. The freshman has logged 1132 minutes for the season as well as three assists.

The Eagles will play their first game of the Sun Belt Conference tournament Friday night as they take on Appalachian State at 7:00 p.m.
