Georgia Southern Men’s basketball wins 2 out of 3 games at the Owl Invitational in Houston

After a tough 71-88 loss to Rice, Georgia Southern closed out the 3-game invitational with a 63-57 win against Western Michigan. 

Redshirt-Senior Carlos Curry scored 16 points on a perfect night from the field shooting 8-8. He also had 8 rebounds and 1 block

  • Senior Forward Andrei Savrasov was second in scoring with 10 points. He and Curry led the team in rebounds with 8. Savrasov stole the ball 3 times and added 2 assists 
  • Defense played a part in this 6-point win as they held the Broncos to under 40 percent from the field as a team. 

Georgia Southern beat Houston Christan in their home stadium 84-77 for the first win of the tournament. They shot a very effective 62.5% from the field as 5 guys reached double digits in points

  • Andrei Savrasov led the team with 15 points. Tai Strickland was second with 13 points. Kamari Brown and Jalen Finch both had 12 points. Finch also added 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals
  • The Eagles forced 15 turnovers while only giving the balls up 7 times themselves.

In the only loss of the invitational, the Eagles started out strong leading at the half and early into the second. It became a back-and-forth affair until 6 minutes remained.

  • The Owls strung buckets together, and the Eagles could not match it. They went scoreless for the remaining 4 minutes of the game
  • Tai Strickland led all Eagles with 15 points and 4 steals. Andrei Savrasov and Kamari Brown both scored 13 a piece. Junior Tyren Moore had 13 off the bench for the Eagles, as well as 4 assists 2 steals, and a block
