Meet Blake Robinson, Georgia Southern University’s Student Government Association (SGA) President.
Robinson is a senior criminal justice and political science major, planning to practice law in his hometown of Valdosta, Georgia after graduating from Georgia Southern.
Robinson said that one of the SGA’s primary objectives this year is to grow the ‘Eagles 4 Eagles’ fund.
The initiative aims to provide financial support for students to help them stay in school despite temporarily unfavorable circumstances. Robinson said the initiative is important because “first and foremost, we are students, and regardless of our positions in the SGA, we are students striving to assist others.”
Robinson said that SGA is pioneering the ‘Campus Vote Project’, which seeks to register students to vote and prepares them to engage in our democracy as young adults. They will be volunteering on National Voter Registration Day.
Robinson said that the SGA’s aim is to be a neutral mediator between the students and the university administration. Robinson believes in the power of relationships and earnest direct contact, saying that “maintaining good relationships between students and the administration allows the SGA to address problems and find solutions.”
Alternatively, the SGA can draft Senate Resolutions, which officially raise issues with the administration. However, there are other methods of engagement.
Robinson wants the student body to know that SGA Senate Meetings will be held at the Armstrong Campus on Nov. 6, as well as in Statesboro on Sept. 18. , Oct. 2. and Oct. 23.
These meetings provide an open forum for students to have their concerns addressed directly and also hear about other student concerns on campus.
When asked what students should know about the SGA, Robinson said “we are always going to be here for you, no matter what.”
