Georgia Southern Women’s basketball fell short to rivals Georgia State after the Panthers went 5 for 6 from the free throw line.
1st Quarter: Southern threw the first punch of the night with a 3-pointer from Simone James followed by State making a three from their end
- Shy Booker scored the Eagles next points and State answered back with two more points, tied 5-5
- State stayed in the lead majority of the first quarter never leading by more than five points, Torrion Starks helped tie it up at the end with two free throws, 20-20
2nd Quarter: State started out the 2nd with a second chance layup, Southern followed suit with 2 points from James on a fast-break
- GS took a short lead halfway through the 2nd after a three and a layup from Eden Johnson.
- State stayed close behind and tied up the game again right before halftime, 32-32
3rd Quarter: State managed to take the lead back going into the third, their biggest lead being six points
- The Eagles held a 4 point lead towards the end of the quarter but two State players managed to tie things up again right before the 4th.
- Both teams were tied 51-51.
4th Quarter: The Eagles led by 2 points shortly into the final quarter but the Panthers back to back shots put them up by 4 points.
- State stretched the lead 69-61 with less than 2 minutes left but Terren Ward hit a three followed by a layup from Constance Thomas to put the Eagles within 3.
- State managed to take the win after going 5 for 6 from the free throw line.
- The Eagles are now 13-7, 3-5(Sun Belt)
The Eagles will play at home again Saturday, January 27th for their ‘Local Hero Day’ against Marshall at 2 p.m.
