Swim & Dive finishes fourth in CCSA Championships

After four days, the Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving Team racked up a total of 832 points, enough for fourth place at the 2018 CCSA Championships. It’s the Eagles second consecutive year finishing the event in fourth place.
The Championship was won for the fourth straight year by Florida Gulf Coast, who tallied an impressive 1,612 total points, 110.5 points ahead on the second place finisher Liberty, who totaled 1501.5.
After Saturday’s preliminary races, the Eagles had an impressive 15 members advance to the finals in five separate individual races, while collectively entering the fourth and final day in third place of the competition.
The Eagles’ top finisher in Saturday’s first event, the 1650 Freestyle, was Freshmen Randi Kiser, who earned a 10th place finish with time of 17:27.24.
Sophomore Swimmer Ashley Kubel’s time of 2:04.12 in the 200 Backstroke was good enough for 14th place in her individual event.
Out of the four total team members who qualified for the 100 Freestyle, Kaylyn Thomas’ 8th place finish was the highest of them all, as well as the top individual placement for GS in the finals.
Another event that saw four Eagle participants was the 200 Breaststroke, in which Junior Bre Stuart’s 10th place finish was the best among the Eagle swimmers.
The final individual race in which the Eagles took part in was the 200 Butterfly. Jessica Ware’s 2:05.60 time was enough to grab another 14th place spot for the team.
To wrap up this year’s CCSA Championships from Athens, Georgia the Eagles took part in the 400 Free Relay, in which they posted an impressive 3:28.72 finish, good for 5th place on the night.
The next event for the swim and dive team is NCAA Zone B Diving Championships March 3-5 in Knoxville, Tenn.
