Over 200 students gathered at the Russell Union Rotunda on Aug. 12 to kick off the school year at the Welcome to the Nest event. With almost 6,000 new students, this was the perfect way for students to gather and have fun before classes began.
The Office of Student Activities (OSA) hosted the event, and other organizations were tabling, such as Health Services, Southern Adventures, Student Affairs and more.
Students were able to get snow cones, play games, ride a Ferris wheel, go ziplining, and more. There was also an opportunity to decorate new doormats.
Tristan Turner, a senior, attended the event and spoke about why it’s important for students. “These events are important because students get a chance to come out and socialize, connect, and branch out,” he said. “It’s good if you come to school with no friends; this is a good way to venture out, and that helps a lot.”
