Chris Casey (also known as Christopher Thomas) released his brand new EP “Buried Out Back” last week with a new blend of 90s alternative rock and alternative rap. The new EP reflects Chris’s latest musical change, featuring new songs such as “Don’t Get Murdered” and “Bodies.”
Chris Casey is a local alternative rap artist who has gained almost 31,000 monthly listeners. Chris has been making music since he was 14, when he was invited to make a song.
“It was so random, I had never done music before,” Casey said. “We wrote this one song for about an hour, just like this really basic rap song. Eventually, I learned how to produce and write stuff.”
Casey’s style of music draws heavily from various bands and artists, including Weezer and Tyler, the Creator. His music combines the intensity of distorted electric guitars with easy flows of alternative rap. You can definitely hear the inspiration on his new EP.
“I started leaning more into rock production, like guitar-forward production,” says Casey. “I started doing that on a couple of other songs and projects before, but I feel like this time around it just kind of hits different.”
One of his hit songs from the EP, “Cow Killers,” is also featured on the new EP and has racked up almost 200,000 plays on Spotify. In the song, Casey describes the hardships of living in southeastern Georgia with the line “Southeast Georgia, nothing but cows and blue-collar employment. Aint nothing to do but work and get pulled over”.
When asked what his favorite song is from the release, Casey said that “Play Dead” was his favorite song, saying that it stands out from the other releases. You can listen to his new EP on all streaming platforms.
