STATESBORO—“Honestly? Look at your local thrift stores. Look in your grandma’s closet. Steal things from your mom,” said Rylee Combs, on finding staple wardrobe pieces. She’s styled in a carefully thrifted selection from Goodwill, combining animal print with suede–a Fall classic.
In terms of thrifting, no two students’ processes are the same.
“[Thrifting] takes a long time. I’m probably in there for a good hour and a half, and I just go buy everything and anything that I could possibly like,” said Shaniya Johnson, a sophomore psychology major. Johnson styles a mix of thrifted, gifted and shopped items to complete her outfit.
“I’m not specific to one style,” said E’LissAnn Jones, a sophomore biomedical engineering major. “But I do like cropped things, and I love like, skirts and shorts,”
Jones ensures her pieces have character, looking for unique silhouettes, patterns and styles.
“Everything that I’m wearing is vintage,” said Combs. “I wear my heart on my sleeve in terms of my outfit. So, whatever I’m feeling. I’m very much inspired by, like, rockabilly currently, the 80s, grunge.”
