As students prepare to register for the Spring 2026 semester, some may notice an advising hold on their accounts. If you receive this alert, don’t be alarmed; this is just part of a new registration process. Registration Access Numbers (RANs) used to be required to register for classes. In the past, you would have had to meet with your advisor to get your RAN, but now these numbers have been removed from the registration process.
Megan Bowen, Associate Director of Advising, has been working with advisors and the Registrar’s Office for almost a year to make registration easier for students. “We wanted to remove this barrier during the registration process,.” says Bowen. Students no longer have to chase down their RANs, and advisors no longer have to keep track of who does and doesn’t have them.
“Since removing the RANs, students have been scheduling appointments with their advisors more effectively,” Bowen said. The hold is there to alert students that they need to meet with their advisors to plan out the upcoming semester. Students can speak with advisors about registration, graduation plans, a change in major or minor, and more topics to help them succeed.
Not everyone has an advising hold on their account. Typically, the students who have the hold are:
- Freshmen
- Sophomores
- Students that advisors need to speak to
To see if you have a hold on your account, visit the “view holds” tab under the “Registration” section to see further information. “This makes it easier for advisors and students to reach out if they have questions during registration,” said Bowen. Once you have met with your advisor, you’re ready to register for classes as soon as your registration window opens. If you need to meet with your advisor, please make an appointment as soon as possible by using the Navigate360 website, found on your MyGeorgiaSouthern.
If you are unsure who your advisor is, check out this website. Registration for Spring 2026 begins mid-October. To view your specific registration window, please look at the “Registration Information” tab on your MyGeorgiaSouthern. Please meet with advisors, whether it’s through a scheduled in-person appointment, email, advisor drop-in times, or via Zoom. If your advisor is unavailable for any reason, you can contact [email protected], and they will assist you as well.
