Over the summer, it was declared that Savannah’s annual Hispanic Heritage parade and festival would not be held this year due to ongoing safety concerns.

The Metropolitan Savannah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MSAVHCC), a local non-profit that traditionally organizes the event, serves as a platform for education and network building for Hispanic-owned entrepreneurs in Coastal Georgia. 

In order to uphold its mission in celebrating the local Hispanic community, MSAVHCC announced that it will instead be hosting a Hispanic Heritage Celebration Breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, an alternative they believe will put the community at less risk.

“After careful reflection, we chose to move forward with a format that allows us to gather joyfully, while ensuring every guest feels comfortable and welcomed,” said Alfonso Ribot, President and CEO of the MSAVHCC.  “While the Parade and Festival will be missed (until next year), we believe this new approach captures the same joy and pride of Hispanic Heritage Month — in a way that brings our community together under one roof, with food, culture, and unity at the center.”

MSAVHCC invites Savannah community members to join the Hispanic Heritage Celebration Breakfast and to connect with families, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. The event will include an authentic Hispanic Heritage Buffet, cultural performances and more.

Despite the news of the cancellation of the Savannah Hispanic Heritage Parade, the spirit of unity is still present this year in our city and in our University, evident from the Hispanic Heritage Kickoff event that was held at Armstrong last week. Other Hispanic Heritage celebrations are set to be held at Armstrong in the upcoming weeks including Noche Musica, on Oct. 15 at Compass Point Clubhouse.
