The Contra dance is an evolved American social dance, which originates from 17th-century English, Scottish and French Folk dances.
It entails participants moving in circles – it even possesses similar steps to known line dances – making it an enjoyable workout for all ages.
On Nov. 14, a local organization, Savannah Folk, organized a Contra Dance at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Bull Street. Joyce Murless, the “caller” for the evening, taught participants the steps to the dance.
