The Georgia Southern Lady Eagles split in their home opener for the 2015 season at the Eagle Classic.  They won their first game of their doubleheader 21-12 over the Binghamton Bearcats in a shootout that saw lots of offense and scoring. The Eagles dropped the second game to Campbell, losing 6-7 in nine innings.

The Eagles’ bats were on fire during the first game, and other than a scoreless second inning, they scored at least two runs in every frame.  After leadoff hitter Taylor Rodgers got on base, Emily Snider blasted a two-run shot over the right field fence to give the Eagles an early lead.

But the Bearcats responded and regained the lead 4-2. The game remained close until the fifth inning when A.J. Hamilton hit a grand slam over the left field fence to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead. The Bearcats would cut the lead to 12-14, but the Eagles responded with two runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh to seal the win.

The 21-run explosion was the third highest scoring game in Eagle history. Rodgers went 2-6 with four runs scored. Snider went 3-4 with three RBI’s and four runs scored. Alesha Mann added two runs scored and 2 RBI’s on four hits. Morgan Robinson also had a big day at the plate, going 2-4 with two runs scored and 3 RBI’s.

Brooke Red earned with win after going four innings and giving up seven runs on six hits. Kierra Camp pitched the final three innings and gave up six runs, with just one earned.

The Eagles struggled offensively early in the second game against Campbell as they could only muster up two hits in the first five innings. With the Eagles offense struggling, Campbell built up a 4-1 lead that lasted until the sixth inning, when the Eagles came back and tied the game.

Campbell would score one run in the top of the seventh to take the lead, but Morgan Robinson hit a solo bomb in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings. Neither team scored until the ninth inning when Campbell hit a two-run home run to take the lead. The Eagles would push home one run in the bottom of the inning, but struck out with the bases loaded to end the game.

The Eagles will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Boston College in the second day of the Eagle Classic. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
