The members of Student About Service are sponsoring an information panel to provide students with information on solutions to prevent alcohol and drug abuse.

“The goal here is to make information available for people who may need help with addiction or know someone who might need help,” Asheley Poole, president of Students About Service, said.

This panel is one of many informational events taking place at Georgia Southern during Be the Change Week, a week sponsored by the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement and University Wellness that involves various student organizations promoting social justice and wellness.

Students About Service is the sponsor of this particular event.

“One of our passions is recovery from drugs and alcohol,” Poole said.

Poole said that Students About Services decided that it would be helpful to have this informational panel especially during this time, since there has been so much focus on alcohol-related problems this year at Georgia Southern.

“Information ranges from services the university provides to other treatment available outside of the university,” Poole said.

The panel will be made up of three experts in various levels of drug and alcohol treatment, a medical doctor who works in the field if alcoholism and addiction and a representative from the Office of Alcohol and other Drugs.

Poole said that she hopes this informational panel will reach out to students who may need help recovering from an addiction or show students how they can help if they know anyone with an alcohol or drug-related problem.

The informational panel will be held on Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. in the Russel Union Ballroom.
