Softball goes 1-1 on day two of Eagle Classic

In the Eagle Classic, Georgia Southern University’s softball team was defeated by Kennesaw State University 6-2, but defeated Florida International University 3-2.

The first game of the Eagles’ doubleheader was a hard hit for the Eagles’ defense, especially on the pitching mound.

KSU had more action behind the plate in the first four innings, but then they really stepped up their game in the fifth inning. Several errors were committed by the Eagles, which allowed two runs in and the bases to be loaded. With the bases loaded, KSU got a four-run homerun that made the score 6-0. GSU continued to fight back and got a two-run homerun in the seventh inning, but could not pull out the win.

Directly after, GSU had to gain back energy to take on FIU. Both teams showed power behind the plate and skills on defense.

FIU got an early lead, beating GSU 2-0, but in the fourth inning, the Eagles got the bases loaded and managed to score two runs. The score remained 2-2 until the bottom of the seventh inning, when, the Eagles got their senior outfielder Alexa Lewis to third base. Then, an error by FIU’s shortstop ran her home to win the game 3-2.

The Eagles will play once again in the Eagle Classic on Sunday, March 3 against the University of South Carolina at 2 p.m.
