GSU Furman rivalry remains strong
October 19, 2012
A new installment of the fierce rivalry between Furman University and Georgia Southern University has come to fruition after the Eagles came to Paladin Stadium and commanded a 38-17 victory.
The rivalry between the two teams has been strong ever since GSU beat Furman in the 1985 championship game.
All week, fans of both teams had been logging into social media sites with intentions of demeaning the other team in the funniest and most original way possible.
After all that talk, the Eagles extended their lead in the series between the two schools to 16-8 all time on Saturday and they moved to 5-1 in the Southern Conference.
During the final 20 seconds of the game, GSU head coach Jeff Monken was accused by many Furman fans that he was trying to run up the score against the Paladins by going for a two-point conversion.
Look for Tuesday’s print edition of the George-Anne for more information regarding these accusations along with reactions from Monken.
