Any student can ride GS’ intercampus shuttle

After the campus merge in 2018, new opportunities to pursue different majors and classes opened up just an hour drive away, but to make this opportunity available to all Georgia Southern started an intercampus shuttle, offering any student a ride to either campuses without putting wear and tear on their vehicles or spending extra on gas.

“I think it’s a very good service for people like me,” said Aishwarya Potluri, a Public Health student working as a Graduate Assistant on the Armstrong Campus. “Not many international students have cars here, because it’s hard to get the license and everything, so until they settle down, something like this can help.”

Starting at 6:40 a.m., the shuttle departs from the Russell Union, taking a straightforward route that ends at the Armstrong campus’s Student Union parking lot. From there, it leaves at 8:15 a.m. and returns to GS’ Statesboro Campus, repeating the process roughly every three hours until 6 p.m., when it leaves from Armstrong one final time, arriving back at Statesboro for the night at 7:15 p.m.

Despite the convenience the shuttle offers in allowing students to reach otherwise difficult to reach or unreachable classes, only one bus rides between the two campuses, forcing many students schedule around the shuttle’s hours.

“We have to tailor our schedule to the bus’s schedule,” said Osvaldo Brisuela, a sophomore in Construction Management. “There’s four stops, but it would be more convenient if there was a shuttle leaving both campuses at the same time, because even next semester, we’re planning our schedules ahead of time, and for a 12 o’clock class, we have to wake up at 7 a.m. to catch the 8 a.m. shuttle.”

Any student can ride the intercampus shuttle. Free Wi-Fi is available to shuttle passengers, and the shuttle has accommodated seating for passengers with disabilities.
