The Statesboro fire department brought the heat to campus with their up in flames event last week.
The goal of the event was to teach students about fire safety and first aid and other practices to protect you.
Other local organizations such as Statesboro PD and university housing also had booths at the event.
The police department had a booth where you can walk using intoxicated goggles.
University housing asked students’ questions regarding fire safety to win popcorn.
Student Micah Peters shared what he enjoyed about up in flames.
“I enjoyed being able to put a fire out with a fire extinguisher. I found out that you have to pull the ring out first and twist it.”
Local EMTs gave tours of the inside of an ambulance, while students enjoyed hot dogs grilled specially by the firefighters.
Firefighter Jonathan Barrow shared some important fire safety tips for students.
“Evacuate the building immediately. Call 911 and notify the proper authorities.
Smoke detector batteries need to be checked every six months. And smoke detectors need to be checked every month.”
At the end of the event firefighters put on a live demonstration.
Three wooden residence rooms were set ablaze.
The Statesboro fire department were there to extinguish the fire.
