Wednesday, September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day. The International Association for Suicide Prevention has named the 2025 theme as “Change the Narrative.”
According to their website, the theme aims to “inspire individuals, communities, organizations, and governments to engage in open and honest discussions about suicide and suicidal behaviour.”
The steps taken to come together and support suicide prevention last longer than just today, though. Suicide Prevention month lasts all of September, and it’s important to be aware of the resources available to you. Below, you will find a list of useful resources.
- The Georgia Southern Counseling Center: The Counseling Center offers 16 free sessions per year for students. Their current services include individual, relationship, and group counseling, and more. On the Statesboro campus, students can call 912-478-5541 24/7 for assistance, and Armstrong students can call 912-344-2529 24/7. To schedule an appointment, visit their website.
- For online therapy sessions, check out BetterHelp to find a therapist that’s a match for you. They offer therapy for anyone, and the cost is determined based on the therapist you match with. This is a great resource for those who prefer telehealth appointments.
- For immediate help, please call 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
