The Armstrong Trash Grabbers club is planning their first major cleanup on March 21, to encourage students to take a more active role in keeping campus litter-free.
The cleanup will be focused on recreational areas such as the athletic field and tennis courts. Founder of the Armstrong Trash Grabbers, Caleb Raynie, said those areas were chosen because they are spaces where students spend time relaxing and socializing.
Raynie said he was motivated to start the club after noticing some bad-trash habits on campus.
“I see so many people throw their trash outside the dumpsters,” he said. “I just see litter all over campus, and I want people to actually put in the effort.”
He shared the idea by printing posters and placing them around campus, where students quickly began showing interest.
“I heard a lot of people were interested, so I decided to actually go through with it,” Raynie said.
To get involved, students can just show up to a meeting or cleanups. Raynie said anyone interested in helping keep campus clean is welcome to participate.
“It’s really not that hard to just put it in your pocket or take it to a trash can,” Raynie said.
