Commencement speaker for Georgia Southern Announced

Georgia Southern’s 24th annual fall commencement will take place on December 11th. It will take place over three ceremonies at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse.

The 9 a.m. ceremony is for the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Science. This ceremony will be addressed by Kathy Bradley. Bradley is a former adjunct faculty member at Georgia Southern. She is a writer, speaker and prosecuting attorney. She has published books, including Breathing and Walking Around: Meditations on a Life and Wondering Toward Center.

The 11 a.m. ceremony will be for the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate studies, College of Science and Mathematics, Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Information Technology and College of Health and Human Resources. It will be addressed by Lonice Barrett. Barrett is a 50-year alumnus of Georgia Southern and has served as special assistant in the Office of Governor Nathan Deal and Executive Director of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

The 1 p.m. ceremony is held for the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies, College of Education, College of Business Administration, the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health. They will be addressed by Major General Leslie C. Smith. Smith got commission in the U.S. army from Georgia Southern. He started as a Field Artillery Officer and has worked his way up the ranks and now serves as Deputy to the Inspector General for the Office of the Secretary of the Army.
