Georgia Southern Men’s Golf held on to reclaim its J.T. Poston Invitational trophy. The Eagles, after the loss of star Steven Fisk, kept its high status alive by defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks by a single stroke.

As a group, GS set a school record for a 54 hole team event, going 47 under par 805. The record was previously 34. Sophomore Mason Williams tied his career best at (-13) and earned a tie for second overall with his efforts. Senior Brett Barron finished tied for tenth after shooting (-10).

GS led VCU and the Gamecocks by eight and 12, respectively, after the first round. The Gamecocks outshot the Eagles’ first round score of 265 by one, putting them three behind in the third round.

Carr and William’s 67s, Barron’s 68, and a surprise contribution from sophomore and Ohio State transfer Colin Bowles allowed the Eagles to maintain a one stroke lead and become the tournament’s first ever back to back champions.

The Eagles will play in the Notre Dame invitational Oct. 7-8 in a competition where they placed second last year.
