Gentrification is a process whereby residents of a neighborhood in decline are given an opportunity to cash out at inflated prices and/or remain in a much nicer environment. Sometimes, the residents are forced out or unable to remain in the neighborhoods but overall, the improvements to the neighborhood are worth the cost and inconvenience of displacement.
