The Collegiate 100, a student organization at Georgia Southern University’s Statesboro campus, is dedicated to mentorship, leadership development, and community service. Chartered by the 100 Black Men of Savannah, the group focuses on uplifting youth while preparing college students for professional success.
Jada Young, president of the chapter, explained that the organization’s mission focuses on giving back. “Our main initiative is mentorship and just giving back to the youth,” she said. “We emphasize professional development and leadership development for students on campus as well as middle and high schoolers.”
Through programs such as the Youth Leadership Academy, The Collegiate 100 offers weekly sessions on financial literacy, career readiness, and personal growth. Members also organize educational tours and attend an annual leadership conference. “We do workshops, resume building, and professional development,” Young said, highlighting partnerships with organizations like Wells Fargo and the Coca-Cola Foundation.
The organization’s motto is, “What they see, is what they’ll be,” which encourages members to serve as positive role models. “We try to really put on display what Black excellence is,” Young said. “You can be Black, professional, and a good representation for your community.”
The Collegiate 100 is open to all students who are committed to service. “We do include everybody, as long as you’re committed to mentorship and service,” Young explained. This past year the organization has seen a big increase in more diverse students looking to commit to their mission.
With ongoing service projects and campus events, The Collegiate 100 continues to make a meaningful impact by empowering students and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
