Jeremiah Waters took first in the dunk contest, adding to the energy before the final matchup. In the featured game of the night,
The Collegiate 100 narrowly defeated Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity by two points with the score being 56-54. In addition to the competitions, the event featured a performance from the Blueprint cheer team and music from DJ Kaycee, helping keep the crowd engaged and the atmosphere lively throughout the night.
For members, the event meant more than just basketball. Harrison Skinner, who previously served as C100’s health and wellness chair before stepping down to become a general body member, said the organization has been a source of support and connection for him. “I really just needed like a brother and sisterhood to help me out,” Skinner said
Houston Jackson, vice president of Collegiate 100, said the organization’s strong sense of connection is what first drew him in. “They were really nice people and they seemed like they had a real strong brother and sisterhood and I just wanted to join something that’s close like a family when I came to Georgia Southern,” Jackson said.
Arreyana Gibson, who previously served as bonding chair before stepping down to become a general body member, also played a role in helping the event come together behind the scenes. Gibson said she assisted with programming by helping provide DJ Kacee with the information needed for the event, contributing to the atmosphere throughout the night. In addition to the competitions on the court, the music helped keep the crowd engaged and added to the energy of the program.
Gibson said C100 gave her the sense of belonging she was looking for, saying, “I joined because I wanted kind of like a family feel. I wanted to feel like I belong to something”.
While the competitions gave the crowd plenty to cheer for, the event also reflected the bond members say defines Collegiate 100. From standout individual performances to a close win over Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the First Annual All-Star Game highlighted both athletic talent and the sense of community within the organization.
