Georgia Southern announces virtual graduation schedule

  • Georgia Southern University students have the option to participate in the virtual graduation ceremonies. They can also join the fall 2020 commencement exercises or participate in a rescheduled in-person ceremony.

STATESBORO — Though the dates for Georgia Southern University’s rescheduled in-person ceremonies for spring 2020 graduates haven’t been determined, the university has released the schedule for the virtual ceremonies in May.

Soon-to-be graduates who signed up for the virtual ceremonies before the April 12 deadline will be recognized individually, and “several special guests” have volunteered to help congratulate the students, according to an email from the Office of the Registrar.

The ceremonies will be livestreamed from the GS Facebook page and the university’s commencement website (www.GeorgiaSouthern.edu/Commencement). The livestreams will also be archived on the commencement website, according to the email.

Here are the dates and times for the ceremonies:

  • Friday, May 8 at 9 a.m. — Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing
  • Friday, May 8 at 11 a.m. — College of Arts and Humanities
  • Friday, May 8 at 1 p.m. — College of Behavioral and Social Sciences
  • Friday, May 8 at 3 p.m. — College of Education
  • Saturday, May 9 at 9 a.m. — College of Science and Mathematics
  • Saturday, May 9 at 11 a.m. — Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health
  • Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m. — Parker College of Business
  • Saturday, May 9 at 3 p.m. — Waters College of Health Professions

If you missed the virtual ceremony signup deadline, you can still participate in the to-be-announced rescheduled in-person ceremony, or you can participate in the Dec. 11 and 12 commencement exercises for fall 2020 graduates, according to the email.

The original spring 2020 ceremonies were canceled on March 17 due to the COVID-19 epidemic. For up-to-date information about the coronavirus, visit the CDC website.
